Choosing Between Monopods and Tripods For Your Digital Camera

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

The digital camera is what's in fashion today. Numerous people own this gadget but not all are able to use it properly to be able to capture great images. Some are contented with having the camera only not knowing that getting additional digital camera accessories can help them get better and more quality photos.

The tripod or any camera stand is one important accessory that any amateur or professional photographer can invest in. This provides many benefits in terms of capturing sharp images of your favorite subjects whether indoor or outdoor.
Some people, however, are undecided which type to get whether the monopod or the tripod. These two camera stands differ in their legs.

The monopod as its name suggests has only one leg to support a digital camera. It is also collapsible and features a wide foot to let it stand and support a camera. Its main column can be adjusted depending on the height you prefer.

Major advantages of the monopod as a digital camera accessory are its small size and light weight compared to the traditional tripod. This is then ideal for people who have problems with carrying bulky items when they travel outdoors. It's also fast to set it up and can be moved around very easily.
Ideally, this accessory is best suited for use in situations where the tripod is difficult to use such as in crowded places, weddings and portrait photography. It can also be used outdoors although this monopod requires a flat surface to serve its best purpose. A downside for this accessory is that it may only be able to support lightweight cameras because using a heavier camera may cause it to fall. You may need to hold it most of the time to make sure that your camera is steady and secure. As this is the case, photographers who want to just concentrate on the shutter control may not go for this type of camera support.

The tripod, on the other hand, has three legs. This is the more traditional type of support for cameras and other objects such as rifles and cauldrons in the past.
Tripods for digital cameras today are available in various sizes depending on your personal preference. There are the bulkier and heavier types and there are also the smaller and lightweight ones. Most feature collapsible legs for easy adaptability to various conditions.
The tripod's flexibility is its other advantage. With this digital camera accessory, you can capture images at various angles and perspectives. This is also best suited for outdoor use especially on uneven surfaces.

As tripods become more advanced today, they are also better able to assist photographers in taking photos of various images that are often quite difficult to achieve by just using the different body positions. Whether a close up or distant image, they are capable of capturing sharp pictures you can
truly be proud of.

Deciding on which to choose between the monopod and tripod will depend on your preference and where you're going to use them. Whatever you pick, be assured that you're investing in a good digital camera accessory.
